A family in Palo Alto is seeking a caring, empathetic nanny to care for their two children; primarily their 8-year-old daughter who has a movement disorder as well as some daily care for their 10-year-old son. The children get along very well and attend different schools in Palo Alto. The family loves skiing, singing, playing board games, soccer, and traveling.

Responsibilities include helping their daughter with dressing, toileting, and facilitating her daily needs, taking her to and from school via bicycle, attending and assisting with her therapies, taking the children to activities, children’s laundry, meal prep/cooking, light tidying, and homework help. Their ideal candidate is patient, reliable, mature, fun and experienced.

Travel is required for this position as the family travels throughout the year for their daughter’s therapies and for vacation. For example, they have planned the following trips this year:

  • 3 weeks in LA in March and April
  • 4-6 weeks in Italy over the summer (ideally nanny joins for part of this time if not all)
  • 3 weeks in LA July and/or August
  • 3 weeks in Australia in November

The family’s ideal is a split-shift but they are open to someone who can only do the afternoon shift if they are able to travel and are a great fit otherwise:

  • Monday-Tuesday 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. + 2:15 p.m. to 6:30/7 p.m.
  • Wednesday 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. + 1:15 p.m.
  • Thursday-Friday 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. + 2:15 p.m. to 6:30/7 p.m.

Experience Requirements

  • 3 years minimum experience working as a private nanny with excellent verifiable references
  • Preferably has prior experience working with children with mobility disorders

Educational Requirements

  • Fluency in English
  • Fluency in German or Mandarin (nice-to-have but not required)

Qualifications

  • Local/lives near Palo Alto
  • COVID-vaccinated (booster preferred)
  • Flu shot, TB and Tdap vaccine
  • CPR Certified
  • Valid driver with clean record (family can provide household car for work-related use)
  • Must have flexibility to travel throughout the year for 3 weeks at a time
  • Responsible and reliable

Responsibilities

  • Care is primarily for their daughter but includes some care for their son as well on a daily basis
  • Assist with breakfast and morning routines
  • Help daughter with stretching, toileting, getting her dressed, bringing her downstairs, getting her in a stander, etc.
  • Take daughter to school via bicycle (mom takes son to school)
  • Make the beds for the children, tidy their rooms and common areas
  • Pick up daughter from school
  • Attend daughter’s therapies, classes, activities
  • Facilitating daughter’s needs
  • Keep up with family’s Google calendar
  • Homework help
  • Assist daughter with showering, dressing, toileting
  • Meal prep/cooking for the kids
  • Kid-related cleanup – laundry, organizing kids’ items and toys
  • Travel with the family / help pack children’s items for travel
