Household dynamic:

  • This educational-minded family of four, based in Puerto Rico, is seeking a private educator to support the homeschool journey of their two children. The role will begin with a primary focus on their 12-year-old son, who is in the 7th grade, who has recently begun homeschooling and is currently working independently on portions of his coursework. He is currently enrolled in the Ron Paul curriculum and has started physics, chemistry, and trigonometry lessons. The family is seeking a private educator who can help transition him into a more structured and elevated homeschool curriculum and experience. Their daughter is in 4th grade, and the family plans to transition her fully into homeschooling next year, at which point the educator will support both children. Her parents described her as a good student who is very social with a variety of after-school activities. Both kids enjoy being active outdoors, playing games, listening to music, and adore animals. The family is excited about building a dedicated homeschool environment for both children and seeking an educator who can help lead this educational phase with confidence. The family actively rescues cats and has many of them at home. Someone who is cat-friendly is essential!
  • Living in Puerto Rico offers the family a wonderful outdoor lifestyle. While they enjoy spending time at home, they also love boating and spending time on their catamaran. They travel throughout the year, including extended stays at their summer home in Weston, Connecticut, during the summer, as well as during the winter holidays. Both parents are intellectually curious, prioritize their children’s development in personal independence and being able to make their own decisions about philosophy, politics, and religion as they get older, and are very hands-on in their children’s lives. Dad delights in economic discussions and may periodically provide economic lessons and general oversight for both children. A kitchen helper, a housekeeper, and Mom’s assistant support the household.

Ideal candidate:

  • This position is ideal for a structured and highly accredited private educator who takes pride in achieving academic excellence. The right candidate will be intellectual, grounded, and resourceful, with strengths in mathematics and English. The private educator will bring strong writing, oral communication, and research skills, and will be confident in guiding students toward competitive academic benchmarks and testing. Someone who can help the children create STEAM projects and develop their analytical skills, and have open communication with the parents on which subjects they are skilled in and which subjects tutors or outside support would benefit. The ideal candidate should have an open-minded philosophy - the family is passionate about individual freedom and is looking for a teacher who will develop their children’s independent thinking and decision-making abilities without pushing any religious or political agendas. The family is looking for a private educator who is willing to collaborate with them, learn from their insights, and thoughtfully integrate these ideas into the children's studies in an age-appropriate manner. This role is perfect for an adaptable private educator who enjoys the outdoors and staying active and maintains a healthy outlook. An organized individual who is comfortable managing homeschool administration, collaborating with supplemental educators, and tracking the children's academic milestones will be an excellent fit. An enthusiasm for yachting and marine environments is highly valued, as the family would love an educator who embraces teaching on a boat and incorporates marine biology and real-world ocean surroundings into experiential lessons. (At a minimum, someone who does not get seasick is key!) A passion for teaching children how to conduct research and responsibly utilize AI as a powerful academic tool is also important to this family. The private educator should also be able to research and recommend various curricula, subjects, and areas of expertise to ensure that the children achieve their educational goals.
  • The private educator will take the lead in designing and overseeing their children’s homeschool education, with a strong emphasis on mathematics and English instruction while supporting advanced coursework in physics, chemistry, and trigonometry. The candidate will develop structured yet engaging lesson plans, guide meaningful science and STEAM projects, and foster strong research, analytical writing, and critical thinking skills. The educator will also cultivate higher-level writing proficiency and competitive academic readiness. This role includes thoughtfully integrating discussions of history, economics, and liberty into age-appropriate coursework, as well as researching and recommending curricula, supplemental programs, and subject-matter experts. The educator will also be encouraged to creatively incorporate outdoor, marine, and boating environments into experiential learning opportunities whenever possible. The candidate will collaborate with parents and other educators, if needed, to successfully transition the children to homeschooling and to manage all aspects of homeschool administration, including scheduling, documentation, and milestone tracking.
  • While not a requirement, the family would love to work with a candidate who is proficient/advanced in Spanish.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to swim and comfortability caring for children in and near water
