Household dynamic:

  • This is a warm, thoughtful family of four in Mill Valley with two young children. Their 5-year old son is smart, curious, and loves learning. He’s into dinosaurs, building, science questions, chess, robotics, and imaginative play. He enjoys deep conversations and asks “why” about everything. Their 3-year old is energetic, playful, and very social. She loves climbing, scooters, pretend play, art, books, and being outdoors. She brings a lot of movement and joy into the house and does best with caregivers who are warm, playful, attentive, and steady with transitions. Both children currently attend the same school close to home, with drop-off around 8:30 am. In the fall, their son will begin kindergarten at a different local school. Afternoons include a mix of school-based enrichment (until around 5 pm) and outside activities that require pick-up and transportation. This is a structured yet relaxed home. The family values kindness, curiosity, independence, and a sense of humor and aims for a calm, steady environment with clear routines and respectful communication.
  • Mom and Dad are very involved parents. They care a lot about their children’s growth and development, and are thoughtful about how it’s supported at home (for example, through reading practice and other learning routines) as well as the kinds of activities they choose to sign them up for. They’re also intentional about exposing them to new experiences and helping them build confidence and independence. Screen time is limited. On the weekends, they spend a lot of time outside — parks, playgrounds, and kid-friendly outings around Marin — and also enjoy playdates and hands-on play at home. The family travels a few times a year, mostly around school breaks, with a mix of domestic and international travel, and the kids travel the world with them. While they haven't brought their nanny on past trips, they want to keep the option open in the future.

Ideal candidate:

  • This position is ideal for an experienced, resourceful, structured, and intellectually engaged nanny/family assistant who finds joy in supporting smart, curious, and playful children while also helping maintain an organized home. Their son thrives with someone who engages him intellectually, follows his curiosity, and is patient with big questions and big feelings. Clear expectations and small responsibilities work well for him, while their daughter connects best with caregivers who are warm, playful, attentive, and steady with transitions. An intuitive, gentle, and attuned candidate who can thoughtfully support each child’s individual needs and development while fostering their curiosity and independence will be an excellent fit.
  • This is a true nanny/family assistant role. The family is seeking a proactive, tech-savvy, and highly organized professional nanny/family assistant who can anticipate the family’s needs, comfortably navigate common tech applications, research activities, and manage family assistant tasks. They would love to work with someone who can take on much of the mental overhead of managing the children’s schedules and household support, while still collaborating with them on final decisions regarding classes, activities, and larger family schedules and planning.
  • Responsibilities include creating an environment for the children to grow and thrive; child-related household tasks, including but not limited to light kids' meals and snack prep, tidying, organizing of children’s areas, rotating kids' clothes/toys, before and after school routines; managing camp/after-school activity planning & registrations; and coordinating activities. Family assisting duties include running errands; grocery shopping, tidying up common areas; birthday event prep; personal assistant tasks (e.g., appointment scheduling, package returns, car service drop-off); coordinating vendor service visits; and managing the family calendar.

Qualifications:

  • 3 years of professional childcare experience
  • Knowledge and experience with toddlers and elementary-aged children
  • Family assisting experience
  • Someone with excellent organizational and tech-savvy skills
  • Valid driver's license and clean/safe driving record
  • Partners, family members, and/or pets cannot be housed in any temporary or long-term accommodations provided by the family
