Punctual and Organized Family Assistant for Growing Family in Castro Valley, CA!

These friendly, busy, professional parents are seeking an honest, dependable, and experienced family assistant.  Mom works from home and will take breaks routinely to nurse and care for the baby, so it is important that the nanny is willing to stay close to home throughout the day and work collaboratively with her. Candidates should have plenty of newborn experience to support milestones and transitions ahead. Supporting the baby’s development through age-appropriate activities, gentle engagement, and plenty of nurturing interaction is a priority.

The three older children are 7, 5, and 3 years old and are in full-day school programs from 8:15 or 8:30 AM until 2:30 or 3:00 PM. All three attend the same school, which keeps drop-offs and pick-ups simple. Nanny will help with them briefly in the mornings stepping in to help them finish getting ready and to get them to school. Mom is off work at 1:30 PM and will want to spend as much time with the children as possible, so the nanny’s primary focus during the day will be the newborn.
The 7 year old is intelligent and loves building and tinkering independently. He enjoys outdoor play and is interested in some sports. It’s important to this family that the children get outside for exercise daily. Although there is a park within walking distance, the older children prefer scootering, biking, or running. Nanny should have the energy to keep up with them and encourage plenty of physical activity.
Big sister is 5 and loves anything traditionally “girly.” She also loves outdoor play and arts/crafts. Nanny should be willing to engage her in her current interests while also introducing her to new and exciting activities and encouraging exploration of the world around her. She continues to grow into her role as a big sister, and she thrives with someone who is mindful, patient, and attuned to big feelings.
The youngest of the older siblings, big brother, 3 years old is active, playful, and loves both physical play and imaginary play. He enjoys engaging with adults and he keeps up enthusiastically with his older siblings! He will benefit from a nanny who can match his energy, and gently guide him through transitions.
With all three children in school, the family assistant will be with them for a limited amount of time, but the family hopes to find a candidate that enjoys all ages and can create a bond with them.
Candidates with a Montessori background are encouraged to apply! This family believes in providing the children with structure, through which independence is fostered. The kids thrive with clear expectations and a consistent routine while also being offered the freedom to learn through doing and to experience natural consequences.
This role includes some light household support. Family laundry, light tidying, packing lunches, and simple cooking and meal preparation are required. Some of these tasks can be accomplished during the baby’s nap times. Because mom ends her workday before the nanny is off, and she will take over childcare in the afternoon, there will be time allowed for household duties to be tackled while the baby is with her. Meal preparation is very important, and the nanny should expect to prepare up to four dinners per week. The family is open to any type of cuisine, but focuses on healthy, simple meals, and is perfectly happy with batch cooking and leftovers.
Mom is a psychiatrist and works part-time from home. Dad is a doctor and works outside of the home full-time. He has variable hours and an untraditional schedule. These parents are seeking a candidate who can keep the children highly engaged during the day as well as set firm boundaries when necessary, as it is of the utmost importance that disruptions to mom’s work are kept minimal. Both parents are warm, kind, and easy to talk to! They are seeking a mature, dedicated, and dependable nanny who is open to a long-term commitment (ideally 3 years). Candidates should have a track record of professionalism and pride in their work, especially when it comes to reliability, punctuality, and proactiveness.
The home is bright, tidy, and contemporary. The front door opens to the main floor with an open floor plan. There is a staircase in the middle of the main floor and off one side of the staircase is a short corridor with doors to mom’s office and the downstairs bathroom. Past the corridor and to the rear of the house is the kitchen, which opens up to a great room containing a Montessori-style play area with neatly organized toy shelves, a bookshelf, and a kid-sized table and chairs for projects. There are multiple patio doors leading to a lovely backyard with a leveled paver patio great for scootering and biking, a lawn, and a climbing tree and playhouse. The family will be adding a full playscape soon. There is also a steep hill in the yard behind a retaining wall, great for climbing and small backyard “hikes.” Back inside, the great room continues to the front of the house where there’s a living space with a large, comfy couch. The upstairs houses four bedrooms, with the newborn in the nursery and the older children sharing rooms. A vehicle will be provided for use on the job and a perfect driving record is required for the position. This family also requires that nanny is up to date on vaccinations, including COVID-19, as well as following CDC recommendations regarding booster shots.
