Warm, compassionate, and highly involved parents in San Mateo are seeking a flexible full-time family assistant to support their growing household. This is a very collaborative home where parents are present, engaged, and value true partnership. They are looking for someone who can confidently trade on and off between childcare and household support, depending on the flow of the day. Mom is currently a stay at home parent, while taking on additional side projects, and may return to work after the new baby arrives. Dad has a hybrid role and works from home at times in a separate office area. Both parents are introverted, kind, and thoughtful, and they place a high value on fairness and open communication in their working relationships. Grandparents live locally and come and go frequently, pitching in with childcare and contributing to a lively, multi-generational household environment. The ideal candidate will feel comfortable in a home with multiple adults present and enjoy being part of a dynamic and respectful team.
The family has an active, curious 2 year old boy who is engaged, expressive, and full of personality! He is highly social, loves to explore, and thrives with caregivers who are playful, attentive, and genuinely enjoy interacting with toddlers. He has a great sense of humor and is both energetic and bright. A second baby is expected in July, and the family is seeking someone with strong newborn experience who feels confident supporting a growing family through this transition. This family is very clear and intentional about expectations: childcare and household responsibilities are never expected to be handled simultaneously. When caring for a child, the focus is fully on the child. When children are with parents or grandparents, the family assistant will shift to household support. Childcare responsibilities will include engaged, supportive play like reading, and developmentally appropriate activities such as sensory play, puzzles, books, and blocks. The family values time outdoors, including walks to nearby parks and local activities for young children. Once the baby arrives, infant care will become part of the role, so the family is seeking someone who is experienced with newborns and confident in providing attentive, nurturing care.
Household support responsibilities will include family laundry, kitchen resets, loading and unloading the dishwasher, putting away grocery orders, helping parents tidy up the main rooms and encouraging toddler to help as well! Light meal prep such as washing and chopping fruits and vegetables, measuring ingredients, and marinating meats is also required. If the family assistant enjoys cooking and would like to take on full meal preparation, the family would be delighted, but they understand that this is not everyone’s preference. Additional tasks include light organizational projects such as sorting outgrown toys and clothing, organizing the pantry and refrigerator, and restocking diapers, household paper goods, and other everyday essentials. Overall, they are looking for someone who truly enjoys being part of a family team and working closely with parents on a daily basis to help keep the home running smoothly and the family thriving.
While they plan to move in the next 6 months, they will stay in the same neighborhood. The family currently lives in a walkable neighborhood with ample driveway parking. The main level of their home features an open-concept kitchen and den with bright natural light and thoughtfully curated play areas. The home has been thoroughly baby-proofed, with clearly defined spaces that allow for safe, independent play. Upstairs includes a guest room, a small office, and the primary bedroom. The toddler’s room is set up in a Montessori-inspired style, with cozy nooks designed for play and reading.
In the future this family is open to providing a car for the family assistant to use for transporting the kids and running errands. Initially, the family assistant will need to use their own car with mileage reimbursement.
If you love working in busy, lively households, enjoy collaborating closely with parents, and take pride in supporting both children and the overall flow of a home, this could be a wonderful fit for you!
