Inside Their World:
A close-knit, active family is seeking a compassionate and flexible live-in nanny/family assistant to help care for their two school-age boys. Mom is currently navigating a long-term cancer journey.
Their 12-year-old is outgoing, curious, and energetic with a big personality and a great sense of humor. He loves to talk and learn about the world around him. He is self-motivated and independent, especially with schoolwork, and appreciates knowing his schedule in advance. He loves playing soccer, running, playing piano, listening to audiobooks, collecting soccer cards, and learning new things. As he enters middle school this fall, he is excited to continue growing his independence and exploring his many interests.
Their 8-year-old son is a thoughtful and sweet child who can be a little slower to warm up to new people, but once he does, he forms close and loyal relationships. Other children naturally gravitate toward him, and once he feels comfortable, his funny, silly, and affectionate personality shines. He loves spending time with the adults in his life and enjoys helping with projects and tasks around the house. He is artistic and enjoys creative projects, especially when someone else gets things started, and he also enjoys sports. The brothers are very close friends.
Dad works outside of the home most days, while Mom's schedule varies depending on appointments, the needs of the family, and her health status. As a result, there will be times when Mom is home and other times when she is receiving or recovering from cancer treatment. Some experimental treatments she receives require out-of-town travel.
Family Environment:
This household is built on trust, communication, and strong relationships. As a family, they genuinely enjoy spending time together through family dinners, bike rides, sports, music, neighborhood gatherings, and quality time with friends and extended family. Their home is very warm and welcoming, and they value open communication, kindness, laughter, and building strong relationships with one another.
They believe children thrive when they have both structure and connection. Their boys are encouraged to be independent, responsible, and thoughtful, and they are looking for a nanny who can reinforce those values through consistency, encouragement, and positive leadership. This family appreciates someone who is proactive and organized but who also understands the importance of slowing down, listening, and building meaningful relationships. They are looking for a professional who will become a steady and trusted presence in their children’s lives.
Who Thrives Here:
This position is ideal for a warm, confident, emotionally intelligent career nanny who naturally balances kindness with leadership.
One of the qualities most important to the family is a nanny who possesses the maturity to establish a natural sense of authority. Their boys are respectful, independent, and eager to do well, so they are not looking for someone who is overly strict. Instead, they hope to find someone who earns respect through calm confidence, consistency, clear expectations, and dependable follow through.
The ideal candidate is an exceptional communicator who enjoys partnering closely with parents, takes initiative without overstepping, and understands how to create both structure and connection. The nanny must be thoughtful, adaptable, and genuinely enjoy becoming a trusted part of a family's daily life. The family is looking for a nanny who is flexible and understands that each week might look a little different, depending on Mom’s cancer treatment and the kids’ schedules. Willingness to be the only adult at home with the kids overnight several nights a month, while the parents travel for cancer treatment, is essential.
Most importantly, this family hopes to find someone who will embrace their children with warmth, invest in meaningful relationships, and become a steady, reassuring presence for years to come.
Daily Rhythm:
The nanny will help create a smooth, organized rhythm for the boys and the household throughout the school week. Each morning, they will help the boys get ready and out the door for school. During the school day, the nanny will take ownership of a variety of family assistant responsibilities, including grocery shopping, ordering household supplies, running errands, laundry, loading and emptying the dishwasher, keeping household and child-related supplies stocked, maintaining the children’s spaces, and helping keep the home organized and running smoothly.
Once the boys are home from school, the nanny will provide care and support throughout the afternoon and evening. Responsibilities may include safely transporting the children to nearby activities and appointments, helping with school organization and homework as needed, preparing snacks and meals, coordinating playdates, and maintaining consistent household routines, among other tasks. Depending upon Mom’s health status, the nanny may have some responsibilities for tracking and responding to school and activity communications (i.e., ensuring the kids have permission slips or are ready for a sports team practice which shifts times).
The family is looking for someone who notices what needs attention, manages responsibilities independently, is willing to have a flexible schedule, and contributes to a calm, prepared, and well functioning loving home.
The family is looking for a nanny who is comfortable with some level of flexibility within the hours she works each week. While the weekday schedule will be fairly consistent, the family will need the flexibility to shift around some of the nanny's work times for a smaller portion of time. This flexibility is to accommodate Mom’s cancer treatments, the children’s changing schedule, as well as some unique scheduling needs when school is closed. With rare exceptions, the family will work out a schedule where the nanny has two days off each week, and at least one of those days will be on the weekend.
