A warm, welcoming, and fun family of five is seeking an experienced family assistant to help support their active household. Mom and dad are flexible, funny, and laid-back. Dad works long hours outside of the home, while mom balances caring for the children with running her own business, and will be in and out of the house depending on her schedule. Their 9-year-old son loves sports, math, and video games, and is a wonderful helper who enjoys caring for his younger siblings. He is loyal, funny, and socially aware, but also sensitive and responds best to positive feedback and encouragement. Their 6-year-old is inquisitive, kind, and sensitive. He loves art, video games, and traveling, asks lots of questions, and thrives when he feels loved and included. Their 3.5-year-old daughter is outgoing, active, and funny. She loves dress-up, pretend play, gymnastics, and swimming. As the youngest with two older brothers, she is learning to hold her own and does best with structure, consistency, and gentle reminders. The children are bright, playful, energetic, and full of personality, and the family values kindness, patience, humor, and strong communication.

While the children are an important part of the role, the family’s greatest need is for someone who can help keep their busy days running smoothly. The day will typically begin before the children return home from school, allowing the family assistant to help maintain organization throughout the home, coordinate grocery orders, manage household inventories, assist with scheduling, support family administration, and keep household systems running efficiently. The family is currently balancing a number of exciting personal and professional projects and would greatly value someone who enjoys bringing organization to a dynamic environment.

Cooking is an important component of the role. The family assistant will be responsible for preparing healthy, family-friendly meals and ensuring dinner is planned and underway before the afternoon activity schedule begins. A candidate who genuinely enjoys cooking and takes pride in creating nourishing meals for a family will be especially appreciated.

Afternoons will primarily focus on school pickup, transportation to activities and sports, schedule coordination, and helping the children transition home at the end of the day. The children typically return home around 2:30 p.m., at which point mom and the family assistant will coordinate transportation to their various activities. The family assistant will need to use their own vehicle for transportation and will be reimbursed for mileage. As the children’s schedules continue to evolve, flexibility, strong organizational skills, and excellent time management are especially important. During certain periods of the year, the family assistant may also help supervise the children after school until a parent returns home.

The ideal candidate will be naturally proactive, organized, dependable, and anticipatory, with the ability to manage multiple priorities with ease. The family would love to find someone who brings a calm, patient, and gentle approach, particularly with the boys, who respond best to caregivers who are emotionally attuned and able to provide steady guidance and encouragement. Flexibility is imperative, as mom’s schedule can change from day to day. Someone who is not rigid about routine and can confidently pivot when needed will be highly valued. The ideal candidate will take initiative, enjoy helping a family stay organized, and be comfortable handling a variety of household, administrative, and childcare responsibilities. A confident driver with a clean driving record is required. Preference will be given to candidates that are willing to travel. 

The family has maintained wonderful relationships with previous nannies and family assistants, many of whom have remained part of their lives long after their employment ended. This family has just purchased a house in Los Altos and will be in the process of moving in. There will be plenty of easy street parking, and often driveway parking, available for the family assistant.
