Job Description:

We are working with a private household in West Austin seeking a seasoned Household/Family Assistant to anchor the afternoon and evening hours of a warm, well-run home. The household includes three daughters at home - a high schooler and twin sixth-graders - all starting a new school year at a new downtown Austin school. The home operates with clear values, established systems, and a high standard of care.

This role is best suited for a mature, career-minded private service professional who brings organizational rigor, genuine warmth with children, and the kind of follow-through that doesn't require reminders. The household has prior experience with domestic staff and understands the value of the right hire. They are looking for someone who intends to stay.

A meaningful near-term component of this role involves supporting the household through the final stages of a major renovation - driving a punch list to completion, coordinating with contractors, and assisting with home organization, furniture placement, and sourcing. A candidate with an interest in interiors, home aesthetics, or project coordination will find real opportunity here early on.

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum four years of experience in a private household or closely adjacent field
  • Demonstrated longevity in prior roles - candidates who move frequently between positions will not be considered
  • Prior experience in a household with children
  • Valid Texas driver's license; clean driving record; reliable personal vehicle required
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus but not required
  • High level of discretion, loyalty, and integrity
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized with an excellent eye for detail
  • Ability to read a room, operate independently, and anticipate needs without being prompted
  • Willingness to sign an NDA and complete an extensive background check
  • W-2 employment only; local candidates only

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting families with multiple school-aged children
  • Background in a professionally organized or system-driven household
  • Interest in home aesthetics, interior sourcing, or project coordination
  • Familiarity with digital household management tools; experience with shared calendar and task systems a plus (Skylight)

Position Duties & Key Success Factors:

Transportation & School Logistics

  • Daily school pickup for three girls from a downtown Austin location; occasional morning drop-off and after-school activity transportation
  • Safe, reliable personal vehicle required; mileage reimbursed

Meal Preparation & Kitchen Support

  • Afternoon snack preparation for the children upon arriving home from school
  • Meal prep three to four evenings per week; household is vegetarian (children) and pescetarian (parents)
  • Collaborative meal planning with the family, including next-day school lunches
  • Daily kitchen reset; grocery runs and pantry monitoring as needed

Household Reset & Daily Upkeep

  • Daily reset of primary living spaces: kitchen, entryways, mudroom, and bedrooms
  • Manage household Roomba on a regular basis
  • Deep cleaning is handled by a weekly service; this role covers daily upkeep and household rhythm only
  • Coordinate scheduling and quality follow-up with indoor and outdoor cleaning teams; conduct regular visual checks on guest house, office, patio, and pool house

Laundry & Linen

  • Occasional folding; ironing of dress and linen shirts as needed
  • Dry cleaning drop-off and pickup; hang-dry protocol observed per household preference
  • Periodic washer and dryer maintenance; children manage their own laundry with reminders as needed

Renovation Follow-Up & Home Settling (Near-Term Priority)

  • Drive outstanding renovation punch list items to full completion; track progress and follow up persistently with contractors
  • Support home organization and settling: furniture placement, measuring, sourcing hard and soft goods, and making returns
  • Light interior and lifestyle shopping assistance; a genuine interest in home aesthetics is a meaningful asset in this phase

Errands & Household Logistics

  • Grocery runs, dry cleaning, returns, package management, and routine restocking
  • Monitor and flag low inventory items using the household's Skylight task and calendar system

Other Considerations:

Success in This Role Looks Like

  • The household feels calm, orderly, and prepared at the start and end of every shift
  • Tasks are completed without reminders and loops are closed without follow-up
  • The girls are picked up safely, settled, fed, and supported each afternoon
  • The renovation punch list is driven to completion in the early weeks without the family having to ask
  • The Principal feels confident the household is in good hands during frequent travel
  • The right candidate grows into an indispensable part of this household over many years
